Frequently asked questions
Can it produce incorrect citations?
Yes. Any model can produce incorrect citations, including models in dedicated legal tools. Stanford's 2024 benchmark measured hallucination rates of 17 to 34 percent in the leading AI research products. Lawyers must verify every cited authority. A Node processes drafts and client files on the firm’s network.
Do we need client consent to use it?
Consent requirements depend on the client, matter, task, jurisdiction, and documented behavior of the system. Your ethics counsel should review the proposed use. ABA Opinion 512 requires informed consent before representation information enters a self-learning tool that may expose it to others. A standard Node is configured to block traffic to external model services. Splay documents that configuration for the firm’s review.
What is a SPLAY Node?
A SPLAY Node uses new commercial NVIDIA or NVIDIA-based hardware. SPLAY installs SplayOS and a validated model, configures the local interface, blocks connections to external AI models, tests recovery, and documents the system. The purchase includes on-site installation of the complete system.
